OR Efficiency with Patient Privacy

  • Easier, efficient tourniquet application

  • Patient privacy and comfort

Stockinette is commonly used as padding beneath a pneumatic tourniquet during extremity surgery.  However, it frequently shifts and moves during tourniquet application. Tournisec ᵀᴹ is a single piece of stockinette made into a pair of shorts, resembling form fitting cycling shorts. Tournisec ᵀᴹ replaces the standard “too small” piece of stockinette or cotton cast padding typically used with an efficient design that also provides patient privacy.

The patient dons the Tournisec ᵀᴹ shorts in the pre-op holding area when they don their gown, eliminating the step of applying padding in the OR. The tourniquet application is unchanged, just easier and faster with the tourniquet being applied over the now stable padding of this shorts configuration. With plenty of material distal to the tourniquet, simply fold the distal end of the shorts back over the tourniquet, securing the tourniquet in place. Thus the name, Tournisec ᵀᴹ – Tourniquet Securing Shorts!

This design makes tourniquet application a one-person job, freeing up OR staff for other tasks that expedite the procedure, saving valuable OR time.

Patients also love the privacy and dignity the device offers, something we would all appreciate if we are someday the patient! Patient privacy issues are also a major JCAHO point of interest.

Tournisec ᵀᴹ just makes it easier for everyone!

Testimonials

  • "I had the privilege of trialing the Tourniquet Secure Shorts (TSS), and the impact was immediate. Tourniquet application was significantly faster, especially on patients with larger thighs, and I didn’t need my assistant’s help in securing the tourniquet. That efficiency freed my assistant to move on with the next stage of setup, streamlining our workflow. The TSS locked the tourniquet in place without slipping and consistently shaved 30–45 seconds off pre-op prep—which over the course of a busy day in the OR is significant. Patients appreciated the added modesty during what can be a stressful time, which was an unexpected but meaningful benefit. It’s rare that a new piece of equipment in medicine delivers such an immediate and tangible impact, but the TSS absolutely did. I look forward to making it a part of my regular practice."

  • "As a Circulator, I get excited about products that make a patient's surgical experience more comfortable. In most cases, a tourniquet is applied while the patient is still awake. These shorts bring an extra layer of protection and a bit more dignity to the patient while genitals/redundant skin is pulled away from tourniquet site to facilitate application. Compared to a traditional stockinette sleeve, these shorts offer much better skin coverage to prevent skin breakdown that can occur when a tourniquet becomes in direct contact with the skin."

  • "The Tourniquet Secure Shorts are a fantastic product. Not only do they cut down on the time and effort needed to put on a tourniquet, they also do a better job of preventing the tourniquet from sliding down. Patient’s really seem to like them because they are comfortable and offer an added layer of modesty, since we have the patient’s put them on before coming into the OR."
